Just Jump In
For many reasons I won't go into, this has been a long dry year in my art journey. I can't explain why this happens to artists of all kinds, but it does happen. You know, when the writer's pen won't come up with a new plot, the musician's note won't fall into a beautiful cord, or and painter lacks inspiration. I've tried several known cures without success and ended up discouraged.
I took a workshop last week with Derek Penix. His teaching was very freeing for me. He inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and just JUMP IN. On his demonstration painting he was asked where his focal point was. "Focal point, I don't think much about a focal point", he said. We all laughed, but he was serious. I realized two things during this workshop. I was getting too involved with the rules of painting that I had lost my creativity and had become fearful of failure. I was just going down the check list and following a format for a successful painting. Don't get me wrong these rules are good. But they are not good if they squelch creativity. So here I am, jumping in. I want to share this art journey with you by starting this bog.
Signing off and looking forward to a new, fresh day!
